Hands up if you want to take better photos!

1. Location - I love photographing in Marin and San Francisco because there are so many stunning locations. However, you don't need an incredible backdrop to take great photos. I took these photos in an alleyway near my house. I saw a garage door I liked and a cool fence and voila! It doesn't have to be complicated!

2. Look for light - Catchlight is the light reflected in your subject's eye. Make sure your subject is facing towards the light source and look for that beautiful reflection. You can play with light in all sorts of ways. Backlight, direct light, shade, side light, and my favorite... golden hour!

3. Get silly - No explanation needed.

4. Fill the frame - Framing creates a connection between subject and viewer. If you want to draw attention to your subject, it's important to make him or her the focus.

5. Keep it simple - Sometimes, simplicity is key. You really don't need to overthink it and in my opinion, the imperfect is perfect. When photographing kids, I don't like giving too much direction. I let them be themselves and I'm there to capture all of those precious moments.
